Malte Zabel

Malte Zabel is an EU expert and Co-Director of the Europe’s Future Program at the Bertelsmann Stiftung. In this role, he leads the program’s cross-cutting outreach initiatives and oversees projects aimed at strengthening Europe’s resilience and security. He is a co-author of the 2025 Conclave Report A Power Agenda for a Global, Sustainable and Responsible Europe.”

Malte joined the Europe team in mid-2021 after serving as Head of the Office of the Executive and Supervisory Boards, where he also acted as a strategic advisor to the Stiftung’s CEO. Before joining the Bertelsmann Stiftung in 2016, he spent three and a half years as an advisor to a member of the German Bundestag. He holds degrees in political science and European studies, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bonn. His dissertation examined the evolution of Euroscepticism within the broader trajectory of European integration, analyzing it in the context of the EU’s growing politicization.
