Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have been spreading across the global economy for the past 25 years (see our\u00a0Data Visualization Tool\u00a0FTA VIS<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Recently we have been witnessing the emergence of mega-regional trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). These new generation agreements do not only deal with tariffs, but also with issues such as government procurement and private litigation. Countries participating in these agreements are supposed to benefit the most. However, these agreements will also have an impact on third country economies in various ways.<\/p>\n
