The Europe\u2019s Future Team again played an active role at the 2024 Center for European Policy Studies Ideas Lab in Brussels. Between March 4 and March 5, the team presented results from the latest eupinions poll on EU citizens\u2019 attitudes toward the war in Ukraine ahead of the EU elections, discussed Ukraine\u2019s reconstruction and sustainable recovery, led a discussion on the future of cohesion policy as an inclusive transition through the European Green Deal, and also forecasted key questions impacting the future of the EU.<\/p>\n
Monday, March 4th, from 10:30 to 12:00 CET<\/em><\/p>\n In the first session of the event Isabell Hoffmann, Senior Expert, Bertelsmann Stiftung, joined the panel setting the scene for the 11th CEPS Ideas Lab with the results of our new eupinions survey \u201cThe War and the Vote\u201d.<\/p>\n In the midst of a tumultuous geopolitical climate, underscored by the ongoing war in Ukraine, the upcoming European Parliament elections in June will be a critical juncture for the EU. However, if experience serves well, we are approaching another high-stakes-low-turnout election \u2013 despite the fact that the EU will have to confront many challenges, both internal and external, over the next few years.<\/p>\n This session delved into the dramatic shifts within the EU\u2019s political landscape, where an increasing tilt towards right-wing governance is evident. Concurrently, we are observing a significant shift as traditional liberal parties, once dominant in the centrist sphere, are being increasingly challenged, even relegated to the peripheries of power. This political dynamic, both within and outside the EU, raises crucial questions about the future of leadership in the Union.<\/p>\n
